Golfers needed to tee up at the 2nd Annual Golf Tournament to benefit Baltimore City foster teens

BALTIMORE (June 30, 2011)   – Baltimore City Department of Social Services is hosting its 2nd Annual Golf Tournament on Tuesday August 16, 2011 at the Mount Pleasant Golf Course, 6001 Hillen Road in Baltimore City.

The format will be Captain’s Choice, 18 holes.  All teams will begin at 9 a.m.  The teams will consist of three players with fourth player being a Baltimore City Youth-in-Care for the first nine holes.  The registration for a Sponsor Hole is $150.00.

In Maryland, there are approximately 4,141 youth in foster care over the age of 14.  The Baltimore City Department of Social Services has aggressively implemented an initiative, “Ready by 21,” to involve older youth in every decision that affects them.  A major vehicle for teen input is the Youth Advisory Board (YAB).  This group empowers youth to have a positive effect in their communities by helping them to develop skills necessary for independent living and leadership development.

Funds raised during this event will benefit the Youth Advisory Board projects.  Participating in this event will give golfers a better understanding of the remarkable children that have become young adults while in foster care and may prompt  golfers to offer summer employment, explore the magic of foster parenting, or consider other ways they may become a resource for children in care.
