Changes to the Child Care Subsidy Program in Frederick County

Frederick County: ( June 15, 2011) This winter, the Maryland Department of Education  instituted a wait list for new applications for the Child Care Subsidy program (CCS). This program assists low-income families by providing a partial funding to pay for the cost of child care if the parent is employed and/or attending school.

The Frederick County Department of Social Services is the local agency which determines eligibility for CCS.  Applications are still being accepted for the CCS program.  All applications will be acknowledged and the applicant’s name will be placed on a wait list.

Once funds are released for the program, applicants will be contacted in the order in which they originally applied and will be asked to provide proof of income and other verifications.  Clients who have received Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) in the last six months are exempt from the wait list and may be eligible based on their income.

Clients who currently receive the subsidy will remain active in the program and will continue to receive the subsidy.  However, it is vital that current Child Care Subsidy clients respond promptly to all requests for information.  Failure to provide requested information by the deadline in any correspondence will result in closure of the client’s case.  If a case is closed, the client will need to reapply and will be placed on the waiting list.

Applications for the Child Care Subsidy program may be picked in person at the Frederick County Department of Social Services Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm.  Interested individuals may call 301-600-2687 to have the application mailed to them.  Clients may also apply on-line at www.MarylandSAIL.org.  Information on services provided by the Department of Social Services is located on the web site www.fcdss.info.
