Prince George’s County to host the first Veterans Stand Down and Homeless Resource Day

One day, one stop, one goal:  To provide resources to county veterans and homeless residents

 LANDOVER,  MD – Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker III along with Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown and the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Veteran Affairs, Edward Chow Jr. will co-chair the first joint Veterans Stand Down and Homeless Resource Day.  The event will provide on-site assistance to veterans and homeless County residents at the Wayne K. Curry Sports and Learning Complex, 8001 Sheriff Road, Landover, MD. 20785 on Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 9:00 a.m.  to 4:00 p.m.

 The Prince George’s County Department of Social Services is partnering with the Maryland Department of Veteran Affairs; Prince George’s County Department of Family Services and John 14:2 Inc, a non-profit dedicated to assisting homeless veterans, to provide a resource day for veterans, homeless residents and those in danger of becoming homeless.  Attendees have an opportunity to meet with various county, state and local service providers to receive information and referral services.  Services include: VA benefits, social security benefits, socials services benefits, employment assistance, mental health services, legal support, obtaining birth certificates and more.
