Baltimore City Foster Parents Attend A Spring Brunch With Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake

BALTIMORE – Foster parents are critical partners on the Baltimore City Department of Social Services’ (BCDSS) team, providing safe and secure placements for the children and youth in the foster care system. On Sunday, May 1, 2011, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. the agency will say thank you to these selfless team members with a Foster Parent Appreciation Brunch at Langermann’s Restaurant located at 2400 Boston St., Baltimore, MD 21224. Director Molly McGrath Tierney and Mayor Stephanie Rawlings- Blake will address the 33 randomly selected foster families attending the event.

“Foster parents are the key to ensuring our children thrive in a loving environment,” said Director Molly McGrath Tierney. “They are our essential partners and we appreciate their incredible generosity and commitment to children in need.” This is the second year BCDSS has sponsored an activity to demonstrate their appreciation for the sacrifices foster parents make to welcome youth into their homes.

Baltimore City Department of Social Services has hundreds of committed adults who serve as foster parents to city youth but is constantly seeking additional families. The agency is currently aggressively recruiting families willing to accept older youth into their homes. There are currently 4,200 children the care of the agency, of which, 55 percent are over the age of 14.

BCDSS provides extensive resources and training for their foster parents. In addition, there is a range of services available for youth to ensure they have the skills to achieve success when they leave care. For information about becoming a foster parent, call 410-685-8231.
